The cast iron base of the light uses the process of sand casting and is finished with a black powder coat. The shades are spun and the edges rolled before a lacquer is then applied.
With its pyramid square base and impressive show of light reflected from the polished brass shade it is suitable for a variety of interior spaces, contract or residential.
Also in the Base collection are the Base Table light and the Base Wall Light.
Availability for the Base Wall light is limited to the UK and EU only.
Not too much to ask we thought. But after much fruitless searching we decided it was time to make our own. Two years of complex engineering and intense shape-making later we think we may have got it.
The Y Chair's expressive form is injection moulded in glass-reinforced nylon which is extremely fatigue resistant - absorbing shock and load through its flexibility and tested to contract level.
The shape of the Y chair is prompted by ergonomics – with lumbar support, space for the spine and a generous brace for the shoulder blades. All adding to its instantly recognisable silhouette.

Copper Shade brings a sculptural sophistication to any interior, either alone or grouped as a dramatic chandelier cluster. Pure copper is applied to the polycarbonate globe using the technologically advanced process of vacuum metallisation.
With its historical position as the first metal worked by man, copper has a crucial role in high technology industries and innovation with applications from solar cells to microwave radiation. The Copper collection highlights the dynamic and flexible properties of using copper. Also in the collection is Fat Spot, an alternative to the numerous minimal architectural spotlights on the market.
An exercise in expressive minimalism, the instantly recognisable pendants are now recolored in grey with a precious internal silver plate, creating a warm, shimmering glow.
Hand-spun by artisan craftsman in Northern India, braised and hand-hammered, each piece is unique and a testament to the time consuming and centuries-old process.
Finished in an external matt grey powder coat. Beat comprises of Beat Light Stout, Beat Light Wide, Beat Light Fat and Beat Light Tall.
Blown like bubble gum into a mould, these plastic spheres are metalized internally to give a mirrored finish. This internal metallic design focuses the brightness from the bulb, projecting a soft, broad beam of light.
The external chrome surface has the added benefit of making the exterior highly reflective providing further character to an interior space. With three different designs, pendant, stand, and floor standing, this versatile collection offers a lamp for every function.
The Mirror Ball pendants are available in three sizes; 25cm, 40cm, 50cm. The Floor version comes with a choice of 40cm and 50cm globe. Also available with Stainless steel stand for 40cm and 50cm globe.
Born in Tunisia, Tom Dixon moved to England in 1963. He dropped out of Chelsea School of Art to play bass in the band ‘Funkapolitan’ before teaching himself welding and going on to produce furniture.
Tom rose to prominence in the mid 1980's as “the talented untrained designer with a line in welded salvage furniture". He set up ‘Space’ as a creative think-tank and shop front for himself and other young designers. By the late 1980's, he was working for the Italian giant Cappellini for whom he designed the Iconic ‘S’ chair. In the 1990's, he became a household name and Jack, his polypropolene "sitting, stacking, lighting thing" designed for his own company ‘Eurolounge’ was a symbol of the age.
Tom was appointed head of design by Habitat in 1998 and later became Creative Director until 2008. He was the public face of a collective team responsible for rejuvenating the Habitat brand, maintaining Terence Conran's dream of enriching everyday life through simple, modern design and creating a shopping experience that is theatrical and intimate.
In 2001, Tom's work was recognised by the award of an OBE by Her Majesty The Queen.
Tom’s works have been acquired by the world’s most famous museums and are now in permanent collections across the globe including the Victoria & Albert Museum, Museums of Modern Art New York and Tokyo and Centre Beaubourg (Pompidou).Since setting up his own eponymous design company in 2002, Tom’s work has become even more prominent. The Tom Dixon brand gave Tom a platform to produce iconic designs such as Mirror Ball, Copper Shade, Wingback chair and Beat light. The company now sells in 65 countries with permanent set-ups in England, America and Hong Kong.
The Tom Dixon brand includes an Interior Design arm, Design Research Studio, which has designed Shoreditch House for the Soho House Group and the Joseph flagship store on Old Bond street, Restaurant at The Royal Academy, London, Tazmania Ballroom, a pool bar in the Central district of Hong Kong, Jamie Oliver’s new restaurant, Barbecoa and Eclectic restaurant in Paris. Design Research Studio recently won their first ever hotel project, redesigning the iconic Thames-side Sea Containers House in collaboration with US hotel giant Morgan’s Hotel Group due for completion in June 2014.
Recent awards and nominations include ‘Designer of the Year‘, London Design Museum, ‘Best Lighting Design’, ICFF show, ‘Best Accessory’ Elle Decoration and ‘Designer of the Year 2008’, Architektur & Wohnen Magazine, ‘Designer of the Year 2014’, Maison & Objet. Established in 2002, Tom Dixon is on a mission to design, illuminate and furnish the future with innovative lighting, furniture and accessories of longevity, simplicity and a materiality inspired by Britain's unique heritage. New collections of lighting and furniture are launched bi-annually at the Milan Salone and London Design Festival with product sold across 65 countries. In 2012 our new accessories range launched, a collection of accessories, gifts and design objects. New collections are shown biannually at Maison et Objet in Paris.
